Senator Cadic pointed out that the sanctions imposed on Russia following the invasion of Ukraine, are having an impact on Moscow’s ability to access and move finances as they have been considerably restricted. He then mentioned that a recent policy brief from the global initiative against transnational organized crime entitled “Going for gold”. Points to gold and illicit networks being a likely part of the answer, and it would not be the first time that these are used to bypass the sanctions, he mentioned.
