25th Parliamentary Intelligence-Security Forum – Adversarial Foreign Investments
Dr. Sohan Dasgupta underscored the paramount significance of fortifying international alliances to safeguard the security, prosperity, and liberties of the free world. He elucidated the perils posed by hostile foreign investments, technological espionage, and economic sabotage, emphasizing that such actions can compromise national security, intellectual property, and the unrestricted exchange of ideas. Dr. Dasgupta elucidated the measures undertaken by the United States, encompassing sanctions, export controls, investment restrictions, and oversight by mechanisms such as the Committee on Foreign Investments in the United States (CFIUS) and Team Telecom, to thwart adversarial powers from acquiring strategic dominance. He emphasized that these endeavors must be augmented by intelligence sharing, international collaboration, and the enhancement of the industrial base across allied nations. Ultimately, he contended that the preservation of the free world necessitates unity, vigilance, and a steadfast commitment to the rule of law, freedom of thought, and open exchange of ideas, as the well-being of one nation inevitably impacts the broader global community.
