19th Parliamentary Intelligence-Security Forum – Keynote Remarks

Sir David Amess began his keynote speech by praising how the US, the UK, and the rest of the world have come together. He then went on to speak about how he supports the democratization of Iran and is hoping for Afghanistan to do the same. He stressed on the threat that Iran poses and mentioned that the Taliban need to be dealt with at an international level. It is our responsibility to deal with terrorism, he stated.

He then went on to mention a few things regarding the Taliban. Minority groups are at the biggest risk of scrutiny in that country and stressed that they are at the biggest risk of human rights abuse apart from women and children. Animals are also at risk of abuse; therefore, they must be saved from that terror ravaged country. If the Taliban continue to abuse human rights, they cannot enjoy international recognition. He then went on expressing his concern over military technology being taken over the Taliban in abandoned bases.
