Mr. Lucian Pugliaresi’s presentation focused on energy policy and the visualization of complex data to help policymakers obtain a better grasp of vital information. Using animation, he showed the global distribution of power resources, highlighting the lack of power in Africa compared to more developed areas like the U.S., Europe, India, China, and South Asia. He also discussed the relationship between the Human Development Index and energy consumption which demonstrates that poorer countries have significantly less energy access. His presentation also delved into a wide range of policy issues relating to energy, such as net zero emissions. He observed that global aspirations for net zero emissions by 2050 is “unrealistic”, with only minimal emission reductions.
