The Honorable Davis Opoku expressed his concern about human trafficking in sub-Saharan Africa. In terms of victim profiles and the types of trafficking that are most practiced, human trafficking in sub-Saharan Africa varies on a sub-regional basis, but there are similarities between the oppressions of traffickers and the factors that contribute throughout the region. Child trafficking is heavily entwined with human trafficking and other forms of organized crime, and traffickers and tourists frequently take advantage of the victims’ desire to immigrate. Hon. Opoku also mentioned that Ghana has been severely impacted by the Russian-Ukrainian war, just like other regions of Africa. In fact, the combined effects of several conflicts, droughts, and farming have resulted in a food crisis that has impacted nearly 27 million people.
