29th Parliamentary-Intelligence Security Forum – Artificial Intelligence Affecting Global Security

Mr. Combiz Abdolrahimi, Vice President and Global Head of Government Affairs at ServiceNow, highlighted AI’s dual nature as a transformative tool and potential threat, framing its development as central to defending democratic values, human rights, and global security. He explained that in the right hands, AI can secure elections, advance medical innovation, strengthen cybersecurity, and modernize government services, while in the wrong hands it enables disinformation, deep fakes, election interference, and societal destabilization. Abdolrahimi stressed principled deployment guided by human-centered design, inclusivity, transparency, and accountability, urging parliamentarians to implement national AI frameworks, foster innovation and education, and adopt AI in critical sectors. He emphasized that AI must uphold civic engagement, truth, human rights, and international interoperability, cautioning that without careful governance, AI can accelerate either freedom or fragility, making democratic leadership essential to ensure it serves the common good.
